Utility Computing service provision aims to control the service quality for a wide range of consumers. To closely control the desired service quality in each phase of the service operations lifecycle, it is essential to be able to describe the quantita-tive and qualitative relation between consumer and provider. This work introduces Usage Patterns as a description language for the planning of quantitative relations and Provisioning Factors to control the qualitative relations during runtime. This work is focused on the modelling and simulation of service usage in the context of Utility Computing (UC). The term utility thereby refers to the field of industry. ABSTRACT A interactive storytelling based service has been developed for the learning project Atlantis University. It provides methods for presenting user adaptive non-linear coherent content in the context of Extended Blended Learning. Like other non-linear projects, it has the problem that huge amount of content is needed. First the Atlantis University Project including the most significant methods used are presented briefly. Then an approach to overcome the problem by merging learner-types, a storytelling based coherence service and a content contribution system is presented.

The World Wide Web has experienced explosive growth as a content delivery mechanism, delivering hypertext files and static media content in a standardised way. However, this content has been unable to interact with other content, making the Web a distribution system rather than a distributed system. This is changing, however, as distributed component architectures are being adapted to work with the Web’s architecture. This paper tracks the development of the Web as a distributed platform, and highlights the potential to employ an often neglected feature of distributed computing: migration. Argues that all content on the Web, be it static images or distributed components, should be free to migrate according to either the policy of the server, or the content itself. The requirements of such a content migration mechanism are described, and an overview of a new migration mechanism, currently being developed by the authors, is presented.
