About
Claudia Westermann is a licensed architect holding a Dipl. Ing. in Architecture from the University of Karlsruhe, a second postgraduate degree in Media Fine Arts from the University of Arts and Design at the Center for Art and Media (ZKM) in Karlsruhe, Germany, and a PhD from the University of Plymouth, UK. Her doctoral research was supervised by Prof. Roy Ascott and Prof. Mike Phillips at the Centre for Advanced Inquiries in Integrative Arts (CAiiA), the hub of the Planetary Collegium. Her current work – based on her thesis – is on a theory and related poetic discourse entitled “Inhabitable Theories”. It is currently prepared for book publication.
Claudia Westermann's works have been exhibited internationally including at the Venice Biennale for Architecture, the Moscow International Film Festival, Isea Symposium for the Electronic Arts in Japan, and the ZKM in Karlsruhe. Recent publications include 'The Architect’s Circle, or The Geometrical Incline of Truth' in ‘New Realities : Being Syncretic‘ (Springer, 2008), and 'An Entry without Inscription, a Letter, and a Map' in 'Orientation _ Dis-/Orientation' (Lars Müller, 2009).
Claudia Westermann has lectured at several prestigious universities. She held the position of a Senior Lecturer (Univ.Ass.postdoc) in Architectural Design at the Vienna University of Technology in Austria from 2006 to 2010 (full time - fixed term contract). She currently works on a range of projects at the intersection of architectural design and media fine arts.
