Back from an interesting symposium at Lincoln on tourism and rural identities

Faculty Member, Plymouth Business School

Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Entrepreneurship

About

I started out after University working in software engineering, after a couple of years this evolved into systems integration (robotics) and I left to work abroad (in Asia, Europe and North America). After working my way up to senior technology manager, I returned to the UK to study for an MBA, with the intention of upgrading my corporate skills. Instead I found a new interest in small business, and after graduating started a small regional consulting company with a couple of my colleagues.

After 3 years of experiencing the highs and lows of the entrepreneurial lifestyle, I decided that I would like to take a deeper look at research into micro-business and read for a PhD at the Centre for Rural Economy at the University of Newcastle. This looked at micro-business networks in rural market towns. I am currently a Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at Plymouth University.

Research

I am interested specifically in micro-business, local business associations and rural market towns, and more broadly in the areas of rural business community, entrepreneurship and collective action.
